Under Construction

Under Construction is a series about revolution, society’s fall from grace, and its ascension. Through out the five years painting this series (2019 - 2024) America and I changed. To embellish the concept and glory of society's constant evolution this series is comprised of *repurposed reflective vinyl construction signs found on the city streets- streched like a traditional canvas, and subject matter depicting change. Whether it be philosphically, physically, economically, or socially, we are changing. Always.

Mary I intertwines the story of Mary Magdalene into this series and once again the blurred lines of good and evil. A close follower of Christ that witnessed his subsequent crucifixion, and through translation of biblical text was wrongly referred to as a prostitute. The muted halo above her head represents this misperception and compares it to modern day perspectives on femineity.

*On the back of this painting it says "I felt like it was all cyclical".

Dimensions: 36 in. X 36 in. X 1.5 in.

An Appeal to Heaven is a metaphor for the things that we as human kind do to appeal to our Gods or God. The priest holds a crucifix symbol like that of a construction worker in his right hand and in his left, a flail - while a dark halo with fluorescent flames gravitates around his head. This figure represents not only humanity's hunger for the after life, but how the idea of it can be used to justify unsavory means.

Drug Addict

Year
2024

Details
Medium: Acrylic, Spray Paint, Pastel and Ink on Repurposed Reflective Roll-Up Vinyl

Dimensions: 44 in. X 44 in. X 1.5 in.

Drug Addict is a testament to true forgiveness, true empathy, and true religion. Although this piece is riddled with gothic undertones it tells a story of redemption for an addict. As you follow the arrow (a element of the construction sign) you follow a line of deep dark colors and bitter textures similar to that of recovery; leading to a muddled star.
